Anxiety
PrimeWest Health offers an Anxiety Focused Wellness program for our members who have anxiety.
What is anxiety?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “occasional anxiety is a normal part of life.” It becomes serious when it causes an overload of worry and fear and gets in the way of your everyday life. It can interfere with things like work, school, and relationships. People with this type of anxiety may be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. There are 4 main types of anxiety disorders. They are generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and phobia (fear)-related disorders.
Serious anxiety does not go away on its own—you can’t just stop worrying. It is a real health problem that can affect the way you feel both emotionally and physically. It can weaken the immune system and increase the risk of other medical conditions. However, with treatment, up to 90% of people with anxiety find relief. Anxiety conditions are common and are treatable.
What does this program do?
This program can help you learn to manage your anxiety. It was designed using a model called COACH, which is an innovative way to help people take charge of their health. When you join the Anxiety Focused Wellness program, you will choose a goal to work on to help you meet your needs. As a part of the program, a nurse is available to answer your questions. They will provide education and support to help you make healthy lifestyle changes. They can help you do the following:
- Improve your quality of life and health status
- Reduce your risk of experiencing adverse effects related to your condition
- Build skills to change and sustain the behaviors that influence controllable risk factors
If you say it’s okay, we may talk to your health care provider about your condition. Your health care provider can help you manage your anxiety. Please talk to them any time you think your anxiety isn’t under control.
