Public Health Nurse Visits

PrimeWest Health works with the Public Health departments in the counties where we serve Minnesota Health Care Programs participants to provide nurse visits to women who are pregnant. Soon after we learn you are pregnant, a public health nurse in your area will contact you to schedule home visits. Or, you can visit your local Public Health office. These visits are provided at no cost to you. The visits are a great way for you to get information and to make sure you and your baby are healthy.

The public health nurse will do the following:

  • Answer your questions
  • Provide resources that can help you and your family
  • Give you useful information on your baby’s growth and development, health and safety issues, and parenting
  • Provide infant safety training including car seat safety. You can also get a free car seat by contacting Public Health.

To get the phone number of a public health nurse in your county, call PrimeWest Health Member Services at 1-866-431-0801 (toll free). TTY users call 1-800-627-3529 or 711 (toll free).
