Chlamydia Screening (CHL)
According to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), chlamydia is the most commonly reported sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the nation, as well as in Minnesota. The number of chlamydia cases has doubled over the last 10 years and affects all regions of Minnesota. In order to reduce complications and associated high medical costs, routine screening of adolescents and young adults for chlamydia is necessary, as many cases are asymptomatic.
Who was measured?
Women ages 16 – 24 as of December 31 of the measurement year who were continuously enrolled in Families and Children or MinnesotaCare with no more than one 45-day gap within the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®)1 measurement year and who were identified as being sexually active were measured.
What can providers do?
PrimeWest Health urges providers to screen all young adults for chlamydia. Remember, a simple urine sample can be used for screening.
