Breast Cancer Screening (BCS-E)

Breast cancer screening promotes early detection and possible prevention of breast cancer. This Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS^®)¹ measure looks at the percentage of women ages 40 – 74 who were recommended for routine breast cancer screening and had a mammogram. 

Who was measured?
PrimeWest Health female members ages 40 – 74 as of December 31 of the measurement year who were continuously enrolled with no more than one 45-day gap in enrollment during both the measurement year and the year prior to the measurement year were measured.

Please note that this measure was recently moved to a different form of HEDIS reporting called Electronic Clinical Data Systems (ECDS), and the graph below reflects limited data as a result of this change. The measure name includes “-E” after the abbreviation to indicate it’s an ECDS measure.

Our results are shown in the graph below. Also shown is the state average for all programs; the national average for Families and Children, MinnesotaCare, and Special Needs BasicCare (SNBC) Medical Assistance-only; and the 4-star rate determined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for our integrated Minnesota Senior Health Options (MSHO) program, called PrimeWest Senior Health Complete (HMO SNP), and our integrated SNBC program, called Prime Health Complete (HMO SNP). Every year Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system.
